The Maryborough Sporting Car Club was formed in 1958 with only a handful of members and these dedicated members would travel to surrounding towns to race speedway under the Maryborough Sporting Car Club banner.
The club shortly moved to the Old Showground’s (now the Chelsea Retirement Village) in 1960 where TQ's and Motorbikes where the divisions raced. In 1964 the club purchased 10 acres of land where the current site is and the hard working club members spent 4 years building a brand new speedway complex. The club then soon purchased some more surrounding land and now sits on over 60 acres of land.
Without a race track or a race meeting for 4 years the Maryborough Sporting Car Club finally got to go racing again when the first ever race meeting was held at the new and current Maryborough Speedway track on 3rd March, 1968. FJ Holden sedans had where all the rage, along with TQ’s, Knat Cars and Motorbikes.
In 1972, saw the introduction of a first class lighting system which allowed the Speedway to race on Saturday nights. The 70’s also saw the timber grandstands erected around the majority of the track until they where replaced in 1990 with the spectator viewing dirt mounds that are still there today.
In 1999, the old wood track fence was replaced by the top class cement barrier wall and state of the art safety catch fence. In 2004, brand new grandstands where erected around the circuit
2006 saw the introduction of a world class track lighting system and the much awaited burnout pad on the infield.
2007 saw plenty of upgrades to the complex with the extension of the back straight hill and new grandstands which now allows our complex to hold well over 5000 people. The entire complex went under a complete refurbishment with upgrades to the toilets, canteens and control tower.
In 2008 the club not only celebrated it's 50th Birthday, but hosted the Australian Modified Production Title. The track has now gone under a huge face lift with its power, which will see the club move forward into its next 50 years of racing.
