A dirt track speedway located in Gympie Queensland. It is Queensland's premier country speedway, and is home to many current and former Queensland, New South Wales and National Champions. Situated on the side of a naturally undulating ridge on the outskirts of the historically significant country Queensland town of Gympie, the Gympie Speedway has been entertaining motor racing enthusiasts for over 45 years.
The Gympie Speedway is a unique Australian track in that its undulating 'kidney' shape incorporates a right-turn-kink before a tight hairpin bend. The 0.42km layout of the Mothar Mountain circuit provides for a spectacular 'amphitheatre' from which the fans can watch the track dramas and action unfold. The track's history dates back to the early 1960s. Motorcycles raced around the challenging layout in the early days. Today sees speedway cars racing in a variety of classes from ASCF Juniors, QSCA Juniors, Street Sedans, Super Street Sedans, Modified Production Sedans and Super Sedans. There are moves to have the track alignment improved to encourage more of the 'big ticket events' and Titles to be staged at the imposing venue. There is a dedicated and enthusiastic group of Club volunteers who condition and prepare the track ahead of every meeting. Race day is always a full day for the organisers who go far to provide the paying public with the best possible experience on the night.
Spectators are well catered with 2 canteens for food and beverage, each with licensed areas, and several viewing stands. Sight lines and viewing is good from the many different points around the track - each having its own very different aspect.
Members of the public who may be inspired to give the racing a go can contact any of the Committee, who can help guide you and give advice and all the information you need to build up a regulated race car according to the various classes and categories. They can advise about racing licencing, safety and other important driver information. On race day there is always a drivers' briefing in the Clubhouse before the cars take to the track. Access to the pit area is granted by purchasing a special pass at the 'pit entry' and must be prominently displayed at all times while in the pits. Covered shoes must be worn in the pit area at all times.
The fans and enthusiasts who come for the action can settle in at the Gympie Speedway and have one great adrenaline-filled thrill-ride of a night out with the whole family!
